It has taken me over a week to realize that he has died. I remember feeling the same way after Princess Diana's passing. I think when someone so profound and notable suddenly dies, the first reaction to their death is disbelief. No matter what he may have done in his personal life, he IS an amazing artist who gave the world his music.
I feel that as if a part of my childhood innocence has died. I remember spending countless hours listening to the Thriller, Off The Wall, BAD, and Dangerous albums on my record player, and making up dance routines by myself. I have always found joy in the gift of music, and his music and videos always made me feel special as a child. Not many people understand how epic these albums are, but to my fresh young eyes and ears back in the 80's, I was hearing something that I knew would be legendary. I am glad to have been able to experience THAT Michael Jackson, as opposed to the bizarre person that he later became towards the last two decades of his life.
I know that only a few people will understand where I am coming from - Michelle and Darlene, and everyone else will think that I am talking out of my ass, but bear with me - I had to get my feelings out!

The sudden loss was quite perplexing..... I absolutely agree with you! A musical pioneer who was so much a part of my childhood is gone. I too remember the videos; MTV and the musical legends raised me! I too am glad to have known that Michael while he was still on top of the musical world, before the oddity set it.
For the last week I have had many of his hits flooding my brain and I find myself silently singing along!
I actually called my mother when I heard the news and she was so sad because he was a huge part of her childhood too.
Hi Tara! I too am saddened by this loss. I know that when I was little I loved Michael Jackson. Hopefully Linkyn will get to hear some of his tunes and like him as well. How could you not like his music?! Yes, he was a bit bizarre in his more recent years, but his music videos are so cool to watch!!! If MTV actually still played music videos, I could probably watch his all day long!
